The Vietnamese sailing team named “Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam” finished in fifth place in the 2023-2024 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race after docking at Ha Long International Cruise Port in Quang Ninh at 10:35 am on February 19.
The “Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam” team led by captain Josh Stickland were very excited after completing a long journey in this fifth leg of the race. The team gathers about 60 members of different nationalities from 27 to 73 years old, taking turns to compete in different legs.
Josh Stickland, Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam Skipper said en route into port: “We saw from our motor to port that Ha Long Bay really is impressive!”.
So far, all of 11 teams have finished Race 7. All eleven yachts are now docked in Ha Long Bay, with teams ready to rest, relax and take in all that the area and stopover has to offer.
The 2023-24 race began in late summer 2023, drawing nearly 400 sailors aboard 11 sailing yachts. The route is divided into eight legs and 16 individual races, including six ocean crossings.
The Clipper Race was first organised in 1996 in the UK. Since then, almost 6,000 race crew from diverse backgrounds representing more than 60 nations have undergone training and taken part in the competition.
Renowned for its grueling nature, it is one of the most formidable challenges in the natural realm and an unparalleled test of endurance and resilience.
