The northeastern coastal province of Quang Ninh aims to make its tourism a spearhead and sustainable economic sector by 2030, attracting at least 25.5-26 million visitors, including about 9 million foreigners.

This is part of a newly-approved project on the province’s tourism recovery and sustainable development to 2025, with orientations to 2030.

Under the project, Quang Ninh targets at least 16 million tourists in 2024, including at least 3 million international holidaymakers.

In 2025, Quang Ninh”s tourism will switch to a strong development stage, striving to receive about 17.5 million visitors, including at least 4.5 million foreign arrivals.

By 2030, the province will affirm its role as a regional and international tourism hub and a leading tourist destination of Vietnam, with an average annual tourist growth rate of 10-11% in the period 2025-2030.

It is expected that the tourism industry will gradually increase its contribution to the province’s GRDP year by year, about 10-11% in 2024, 11-12% in 2025, and 15 % in 2030.

To achieve the targets, Quang Ninh will develop tourism towards green and sustainable growth, associated with the conservation and promotion of traditional cultural values; contribute to maintaining national security and border sovereignty; and ensure social order and safety.

The province will also develop a variety of tourism products and forms based on the value of the world natural heritage of Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay, and other outstanding local tourism resources.

In the first seven months of 2023, Quang Ninh welcomed about 10.8 million visitors, up 54% over the same period in 2022. Foreign visitors to the province were mainly from China, the Republic of Korea, the US, India, France, the UK, Australia, Germany, Malaysia, and Canada.

Besides gleaming beaches and diverse marine creatures, Co To Island has an abundance of mesmerizing attractions that every tourist should not miss.

A variety of novel and appealing tourism products and services have introduced to the public this summer. Notably, tourists visiting Co To can enjoy a new product of recreational scuba diving and coral viewing in the Co To Marine Preservation Area on Thanh Lan island.

Another experience that shouldn’t be missed is going camping on the splendid beach of Ba Chau where travellers can enjoy a fun-filled holiday.

Co To is said to have the richest biodiversity in Vietnam with the presence of many typical ecosystems of tropical waters, including concentrated coral reef ecosystems. The island is also home to rare seafood types with high values.

The consistent orientation for the development of Co To island in the coming time is to fully tap its potentials and advantages, seizing opportunities and attracting investment to create strong growth and economic restructuring.

In terms of tourism, the island determines to standardize all tourist activities, develop professional and high-end tourist products in conjunction with environmental preservation.

The local government has already encouraged businesses to offer discounted products and services to lure more tourists.

Regarding transport services, some passenger carriers such as Ka Long and Quang Minh has promoted new services.

In a long run, Co To also targets to implement many activities to attract tourists all year around, especially in the low-season periods of autumn and winter, and pay much attention to promote the images of destinations.

The district has currently deployed a series of solutions to expand tourism space such as building new products in potential areas such as Thanh Lan island, Co To con island, promoting night economy, especially at walking streets.

With 30 islets, Co To island district off Quang Ninh province is considered among the 10 most beautiful islands for tourism in Vietnam. Ca Chep islet boasts a long coastline, smooth white sand, spectacular landscapes and sea breezy cool temperatures.

It takes tourists about 15-20 minutes from the center of Co To island to Bac Van port where they can hire a boat or cano to the islet in 15 minutes or 7 minutes respectively. Enjoying the cool and refreshing sea breeze along this short journey is also an unforgetable experience.

The pristine beauty of Ca Chep wins the heart of every tourist. From afar or from above, it is easy to recognize Carp Island as a green, peaceful oasis with long stretches of golden sand, clear blue water which seems sparkling under the sun. Indeed, this islet has beautiful sceneries on all four sides.

The highlight of this small islet is the beach with fine white sand next to thousands of age- old eroded sedimentary rocks. Visitors will have a chance to be immersed in the cool water and take splendid photos.

Responding the traveling demands on the peak season, Vietjet will offer an additional flight from Van Don to Ho Chi Minh city on every Monday from July 24.

As scheduled, the VJ231 flight from Van Don to Ho Chi Minh City takes off from Van Don at 9.55 am and lands at Ho Chi Minh city at 12.10pm. The VJ230 flight from Ho Chi Minh City city Van Don departs from Ho Chi Minh City at 7.5 am and lands at Van Don at 9.20 am.

Thus, Vietjet Air operates 4 flights from Van Don to Ho Chi Minh City on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Currently, Van Don International Airport is operating 10 round-trip flights from Van Don to Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to 4 flights operated by Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways offers 3 flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; Vietnam Airlines flights operate on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

In addition, the first route connecting Can Tho and Quang Ninh has been operated two return flights per week on Tuesdays and Sundays.

Leading UK-based travel magazine Wanderlust has recently selected Vietnam”s Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, and Phong Nha-Ke Bang as three of the 16 most favourite UNESCO world heritage wonders in Southeast Asia.

“Lying prostrate aboard an old wooden junker, peering out across the emerald waters as jungle-covered precipices rear out of nowhere isn’t the only way to experience Halong Bay – it remains among the best, though,” Wanderlust wrote.

The magazine commented: “These limestone karst pillars aren’t unique to Vietnam, but nowhere on Earth is their scale so dramatic, sprouting some 1,600 spines from the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin, birthing towering islands and islets out of bounds to all but the native seabirds that have made them home.

“The site was first inscribed by UNESCO in 1994. Twenty-something years later, little has changed except how to see them and the increasing numbers of those who have. The slow-screw of erosion has notched hidden caves and dramatic arches into many of its rises.

“Kayak out for a more intimate look at the likes of Thien Cung, famed for its impressive stalagmites and stalactites; or drift past oysters farms and floating villages – ramshackle constructions linked by trembling walkways – to seek out secret beaches away from the boat-going hordes,” it added.

Ha Long Bay, which is situated in Northeast Vietnam, is regarded as one of the world’s geographical beauties due to its green seas scattered with hundreds of limestone islets, each capped with its distinct tropical jungle, the magazine said.

Tourists may enjoy the destination by diving and snorkeling, renting a canoe, or simply relaxing on the upper deck of their boat tour with a beverage in hand, it added.

The core area of Ha Long Bay was recognised twice by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site in 1994 and 2000, with global special values of geology. On November 12, 2011, Ha Long Bay, was announced by New Open World Organisation, as one of seven new natural wonders of the world.

Thanks to its picturesque and peaceful landscapes, Yen Trung lake tourist site has a charm reminiscent of  the “town of love’ Da Lat.

Located in the national road 18A connecting Hanoi with Ha Long, about 5 km from Uong Bi city’ Yen Tu heritage site, Yen Trung lake is about 100 hectares in size and surrounded by mountains and lush pine forests.

Visiting this tourist site, travellers will be lured by the pristine beauty of pine forests lying next to wandering roads and the large freshwater lake. This picturesque scenery makes for a great tranquil getaway away from the bustle of urban life.

Apart from going sightseeing, tourists are able to camp under the forest canopy, rent boats from locals to paddle to the lake’s two islands, or hire bicycles and motorbikes to ride around the tourist site. The cost of hiring boats ranges from VND 80,000 to 100,000 per hour.

Yen Trung Lake has been recognized as a provincial-level tourist attraction since 2019. Uong Bi city has continued to embellish the landscape with more flowers and green trees.  Yen Trung Lake is expected to offer visitors more tourism experiences and products.

After enjoying amazing time at this poetic area, visitors can lengthen their itinerary in Uong Bi city by discovering other attractions such as Lung Xanh eco-tourism area, Yen Tu scenic relic area, Ba Vang pagoda, Uong Bi landscape market, etc.

There are many ways to explore Halong Bay like cruising on boats, junks or a luxury cruise like Halong Bay cruise Orchid. However, Halong Bay looks extremely different from another vantage point – above.

Halong Bay is famous for its terrific beauty, with thousands of limestone karst caves and structures. Hundreds or even thousands of tourists visit this charming place every day.

Any Halong Bay sunset and sunrise is worth its weight in gold. It is when the sun hits the water between spectacular limestone peaks and emerald green coves.

The Quang Ninh Department of Tourism recorded 7.1 million tourist arrivals in the first 5 months of 2023, 1.7 times higher than the figure of the same period last year.

The province earned 13.14 trillion VND (559.1 billion USD) from tourism activities, 1.83 times higher than that of the same period last year.

The number of visitors to Quang Ninh  is estimated at 1.15 million in May, bringing the province tourism revenue of nearly 2.3 trillion VND. In June, the province expects to attract 1.76 million holidaymakers.

The province is home to over 620 historical, cultural and tourist attractions. Of these, there are three special national relics: Ha Long Bay, Yen Tu historical relic in Uong Bi city and Bach Dang historical relic in Quang Yen town. Additionally, the locality houses a number of classic relics that include the royal tombs of Tran Kings, Cua Ong temple, Tra Co communal house, Cai Bau pagoda, Truc Lam Giac Tam Zen monastery and Long Tien pagoda.

Such spiritual tourist areas draw visitors from across the country, especially during spring festivals. It offers them a chance to learn about the culture and beauty of Quang Ninh and its people.

Other cultural and recreational areas, namely Ha Long Bay, Sun World Recreational Park, Quang Ninh museum, etc., have also attracted plenty of tourists.

In 2023, Quang Ninh looks to serve 14 million tourists, including two million foreigners, and earn some VND27 trillion from tourism.

The province  plans to continue taking a range of measures to boost its tourism market, with a focus on projects for restoring the tourism industry, developing sustainable community tourism development and implementing a master plan for marine tourism management in Ha Long Bay, Van Don and Co To.

In order to attract both domestic and foreign tourists, the province has stepped up tourism promotion activities, created new tourism products and services and those with regional linkage, develop a safe tourism programme, and select typical and safe tourism products to introduce to travel and tourism businesses.
